Hemp, a plant rich in fiber for textile industry and considered as an eco raw material. Recently this plant comes into popularity. Many shops selling bags trying to promote that their shops are selling hemp bags and anyone who buys hemp products are considered as an environment supporter.
However, eco-friendly benefits of using products made of hemp does not depend only on the raw materials. The production process has to be taken into account too. Many hemp products such as hemp bags exported worldwide from China were passed through the process which may not considered as an environmentally friendly process such as the chemical dyeing process, the use of bleached leather as accessories.
Then how consumers can deal with this kind of situation when it comes to shopping. The solution is that the consumers must be able to know that at what level of eco-friendly consciousness they really are. The level can be generally listed as below
1) Strongly eco conscious shoppers – Buy only green hemp goods
2) Moderate eco conscious conscious shopper – Depends on budget, products
Appearance and it is a plus if they can get green hemp products.
3) Low eco conscious shopper – Depends on the appearance of products and budget.
4) Pseudo eco conscious shopper – Depends on the appearance of products and budget
Then after knowing the level of eco-friendly consciousness above, then it will be easier for the shoppers to decide which type of hemp products to be chosen.
Strong eco-friendly shoppers may decide to buy only the green hemp products which have the third party certification. They can be less sensitive to price.If the budget does not enough they can save more money and come back later. Then, this can make this kind of shopper more happy.
The moderate – low eco-friendly shoppers may decide to buy the hemp products based on many criteria such as price, design, distribution channel
For pseudo eco-friendly shoppers, this group of consumers are not the ones who really care about ecology and environment. Some of them would like the other people to perceive them as an eco-friendly conscious buyers. For this type of consumers, they do not need to care much about the source of hemp products that whether from the green factory or not. So, it is suggested that they can buy any kindly of hemp products they want.
So this article shows that hemp products are not always the environmentally friendly way of shopping. But the production process must be taken into account. And to deal with these products which the eco-friendly green benefits are not fully realized because of the industrial production process, the consumers need first to know their level of eco-friendly consciousness then they can make decision correctly which to buy or not to buy .
